This series is inspired by seeking the Lord in prayer and in the Word, and by walking alongside other men who are struggling or have struggled under the immense weight of shame and the consequences of struggling with lust, addiction, porn, masturbation, etc.
The Lord has revealed to me how necessary it is to bring these topics into the light, especially so amid our hyper-sexualized Western world, media, and culture.
Victory in Christ belongs to those who trust in Jesus, the Lamb of God who was slain. Real freedom from slavery to sexual immorality, addiction, & shame is available and possible through Him.
Welcome to Part 3 in the Victory in Christ series. We’re continuing our conversation on Embracing Christ's Victory and Your Identity in Him. This podcast-post is the first of three in a mini series of sorts. Through Christ, we have been set free from the penalty of our sins, and that’s the good news we’re exploring today.
In the very first part of this Victory in Christ series on our God making Sons out of Slaves, we covered a few big topics most avoid and asked some real questions.
One, a testimony that needs to be shared.
Two, the plague of lust and stronghold of sexual immorality, including some weighty statistics on the gravity of the issue at hand.
Three, the pressing need to pray, so we prayed together.
We asked the big questions: What’s the solution? How can we truly be set free?
And, we highlighted a non-exhaustive list of Biblical ways we can truly walk in the victory that Christ desires for us, the victory that He secured for His sons and daughters through His sinless life, sacrificial death, and triumphant resurrection.
Ultimately, it requires love for God and for others.
So, now what? Does it just depend on self-correction? Do we just need to make it happen and will ourselves to freedom? How can we truly overcome strong temptations or addiction or shame from past sins?
There is good news.
Our God makes sons out of slaves. He makes new creations in Christ Jesus.

Our God makes Sons out of Slaves: The Victory in Christ Series Introduction
This series is inspired by seeking the Lord in prayer and in the Word regarding full freedom from lust & sexual immorality, and with these, addiction & shame. It is also inspired by walking alongside other young men who are struggling or have struggled under the immense weight of shame and the consequences of struggling with lust, addiction, porn, mastu…
In the second part of this Victory in Christ series, we turned our focus to Embracing Christ's Victory and Your Identity in Him.
First, we asked the question: How can we better embrace our true identity as Sons and Daughters of our Father in Heaven?
We must Embrace Christ’s Victory over Sin!
We discussed, What’s the Big Deal About Sin? and followed with a deep dive in response to a very big question: Why Did Jesus Come?
This conversation on why Jesus came led us to a powerful and personal call to action: You Choose Your Master: Either Sin or Jesus.
If Jesus is your Lord, He is your master. Sin is no longer your master. You don’t owe sin a thing. You don’t have to listen to sin anymore. You don’t have to do what your flesh craves.
Because Jesus is Victorious, You are Victorious in Him.

Before we finished with a Faith-Filled Final Exhortation, we asked the question, What does Jesus’ Victory over Sin mean for Me?
That is the question we are going to explore now! Let’s jump into Part 3!
What does Jesus’ Victory over Sin mean for Me?
Through Christ, we have been set free from the penalty of our sins, namely, death and eternal separation from our loving God and Creator.
Through Christ, we are being set free from the power of sin, temptations included.
Through Christ, we will be set free from the presence of sin, once and for all.
Powerful, right? I need to hear that again. Through Christ, we have been set free from the penalty of our sins, we are being set free from the power of sin, and we will be set free from the presence of sin, once and for all. Hallelujah! That is such good news.
It’s time to reinforce our beliefs with truth!
Let’s Pray
Lord God Almighty,
You are faithful and able to give us ears to hear, eyes to see, and a heart and mind to perceive and understand. May Your truth resonate within us.
Keep us from disregarding Your life-giving words and ways. Lord Jesus, You are the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through You.
Thank You for guiding us into all truth by Your Holy Spirit. Help us to believe and receive who You are and what You did to set us free from the penalty of sin, the power of sin, and one day, even the presence of sin.
Thank You for Your presence with us, all our days, even in the midst of temptations and dark valleys in life. You overcame sin, death, and the devil. You resisted temptation to the point of death, even death on the cross for us.
Your love and loyalty to us is proven and sure. You’re sacrifice for us and resurrection changes everything. Thank You, Father, for making us new people and giving us new life as new creations in Christ. Help us now, to receive Your truth and respond by faith! We pray in the awesome name of Jesus.
Amen.
First, We Have Been Set Free from the PENALTY of our SIN.
What does this mean?
If you're in Christ:
You're justified (declared not guilty),
The record of debt is canceled,
The penalty is paid in full by Jesus,
You are no longer condemned, and
You’ve passed from death to life.
How can we know this for sure? Let’s look at what God’s Word says.
Truths to Inscribe on Your Heart
Truth #1: Romans 8:1–2
“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.”
Hallelujah! → Because of Christ’s perfect life, sacrificial death, and triumphant resurrection, we have freedom from the penalty of our sins. There’s now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
Truth #2: Romans 3:23–25
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith.”
Hallelujah! → To be justified is to be declared righteous. We who have trusted in Jesus as our Savior and Lord are justified by his grace as a gift.
What is propitiation? It’s God's wrath against sin satisfied. Jesus received the just judgement we deserved.
Truth #3: Romans 5:8–9
“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.”
Hallelujah! → Jesus is our propitiation! There it is again. Justification through Christ's blood saves us from God’s wrath—the penalty of sin.
Truth #4: Romans 6:23
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Hallelujah! → The penalty, or "wages" to be paid for our sins, is death. In Christ, we've received life. If you’re in Christ, that abundant life with Christ has already begun. You get to live daily in close relationship with the Lover of your soul, your Maker, the Creator of heaven and earth. You get to be known by God and loved by Him in ways you can experience and understand. You get to know Him more and more, day by day. That is such an awesome privilege, no amount of words can do it justice.
Truth #5: Colossians 2:13–14
“And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.”
Hallelujah! → We were dead in our sins, but God forgave us and resurrected us to new life with Christ, just as He was raised to new life. By God’s grace, the legal penalty and debt of our sins are canceled—nailed to the cross. Amen!
Truth #6: Galatians 3:13
“Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree’— so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith.”
Hallelujah! → Jesus bore the penalty (the curse), so we are redeemed from it. As though that wasn’t already merciful enough, God made a way for us to receive the blessing of the promised Holy Spirit through faith and be welcomed into the covenant family of God! Who is like the Lord our God?!
Truth #7: Isaiah 53:5–6
“But he [Jesus] was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”
Hallelujah! → In love for us, Jesus took the punishment we deserved. The reality is that we all have willingly rebelled against, disobeyed, and overstepped God’s good commands. Countless times, we’ve all consciously chosen to go our own way, rather than going God’s life-giving way. Only Jesus Christ of Nazareth perfectly fulfilled God’s commands. He alone is our substitution, the only one who could truly take our place as the sinless Lamb of God. So, we can put our full trust in Him. We can depend on Jesus completely for our salvation. That is good news I need to hear again and again.
Truth #8: John 5:24
“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.”
Hallelujah! → Faith in Christ leads to eternal life with Him, because Jesus already took our judgement upon Himself.
Truth #9: 1 Peter 2:24
“He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.”
Hallelujah! → Christ physically bore the weight of our sins and their consequences so we can choose life over death, hating what God hates, namely, sin, and loving what God loves, what is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent, and worthy of praise (Phil. 4:8).
Take a moment to let these truths from God’s Word sink into your soul.
We Have Been Set Free from the PENALTY of our SIN.
That changes everything. All glory to our beautiful Savior and Lord of all.
Who is like the Lord our God? How can we not celebrate what He has done?

A Final Faith-Filled Exhortation
Friends, while the deceiver wants to keep us buried under the weight of our sin and shame, hidden in the dark, Jesus our victorious Savior invites us:
28 “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart,
and you will find rest for your souls.” - Matthew 11:28-29
Through this Victory in Christ series, “Slaves to Sons,” we are asking, seeking, and knocking together as Jesus instructs us in Matthew 7:7-8, trusting that our great God will give, reveal, and open doors. We will continue to discover how to get freedom from sexual immorality, addiction, and shame as we embrace our identity as a beloved sons and daughters of our Father in Heaven.
Our God is for us, who can be against us!
