This series is inspired by seeking the Lord in prayer and in the Word, and by walking alongside other men who are struggling or have struggled under the immense weight of shame and the consequences of addiction and sexual immorality, etc.
The Lord has revealed to me how necessary it is to bring these topics into the light, especially so amid our hyper-sexualized Western world, media, and culture.
Victory in Christ belongs to those who trust in Jesus, the Lamb of God who was slain. Real freedom from slavery to sexual immorality, addiction, & shame is available and possible through Him.
Welcome to Part 4 in the Victory in Christ series. We’re continuing our conversation on Embracing Christ's Victory and Your Identity in Him. This podcast-post is the second of three in a mini series of sorts. Through Christ, we are being set free from the power of sin, and that’s the good news we’re exploring today.

Our God makes Sons out of Slaves: The Victory in Christ Series Introduction
In the Victory in Christ series introduction, we covered a few big topics most avoid and asked some real questions. One, a testimony that needs to be shared. Two, the plague of lust and stronghold of sexual immorality, including some weighty statistics on the gravity of the issue at hand. Three, the pressing need to pray, so we prayed together. We asked the big questions: What’s the solution? How can we truly be set free? And, we highlighted a non-exhaustive list of Biblical ways we can truly walk in the victory that Christ desires for us, the victory that He secured for His sons and daughters through His sinless life, sacrificial death, and triumphant resurrection.
Ultimately, it requires love for God and for others.
Our God makes sons out of slaves. He makes new creations in Christ Jesus.

Part 3 SET FREE from the PENALTY of our SIN through CHRIST: Embracing Christ's Victory and Your Identity in Him - Our God makes Sons out of Slaves
What does Jesus’ Victory over Sin mean for Me?
What does it mean to Have Been Set Free from the PENALTY of our SIN?
If you're in Christ: You're justified (declared not guilty), the record of debt is canceled, the penalty is paid in full by Jesus, you are no longer condemned, and you’ve passed from death to life.
How can we know for sure? We confirmed these by meditating on nine powerful Truths to Inscribe on Your Heart from the Bible.
By the grace of God manifest through Christ’s sinless life, atoning sacrifice, and resurrection from the dead, not only have we been Set Free from the PENALTY of our SIN, but also with the help of the Holy Spirit, We Are Being Set Free from the POWER of SIN.
That is exactly what we’re about to explore now. On to Part 4!
Let’s Pray
Lord God Almighty,
Thank You for setting us free from the penalty of our sin.
Thank You for continuing to set us free from the power of sin.
Thank You for the coming day when we will be in Your holy presence, face to face, free from even the presence of sin.
Because You overcame and live, so we overcome through You.
Thank You for abiding in us who believe. Teach us to abide in You and remain in Your love.
Help us to believe, receive, and respond to the reality of Your victory over sin, death, and the devil.
As You strengthened Daniel to remain resolved and faithful, even courageous in the face of pressure and opposition, empower us likewise to stay resolved in faith and faithful in little, taking courage even in the face of pressure to lose heart or hope.
By Your Spirit, may we hear the truths from Your Word listed ahead and truly respond in joy-filled obedience, trusting You to work in and through us and believing we really are who You say we are, more than conquerors in Christ who loves us.
We pray all this in the name of our Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ.
Amen.
What does Jesus’ Victory over Sin mean for Me?
Through Christ, we have been set free from the penalty of our sins, namely, death and eternal separation from our loving God and Creator.
Through Christ, we are being set free from the power of sin, temptations included.
Through Christ, we will be set free from the presence of sin, once and for all.
Hallelujah! Powerful, right?! This is such good news.
It’s time to reinforce our beliefs with truth!
We Are Being Set Free from the POWER of SIN
What does this mean?
If you're in Christ:
You're no longer a slave to sin. Sin is no longer your master. Jesus is your Lord, He is your master.
You're being transformed daily by the Spirit.
God’s grace trains you to live in a godly way.
The power of sin is actively being broken in your life.
How can we know this for sure? Let’s look at what God’s Word says.
Truths to Inscribe on Your Heart
Truth #1: Romans 6:6–7
“We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. For one who has died has been set free from sin.”
God be praised! → In Christ, we are no longer slaves to sin’s power. Instead, we are new creations in Christ, overcoming through His power.
Truth #2: Romans 6:11–14
“So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.
Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.”
God be praised! → Jesus reigns! Through Him, sin no longer reigns unrestricted in our bodies or lives when we embrace Jesus as our Lord, enthroned in our hearts. Through Jesus, we’re dead to the power of temptation and addictions. God’s grace empowers new obedience that leads to abundant life with Jesus.
Truth #3: Galatians 5:16
“But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.”
God be praised! → The Spirit enables us to overcome sinful desires, no matter how strong. We get to practice walking by the Spirit, submitted to Him, as beloved sons and daughters of the King.
Truth #4: Galatians 2:20
“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
God be praised! → Christ’s life in us empowers us to live free from our old bondage to sin. We get to live by faith in Jesus, the proven Lover of our souls.
Truth #5: Colossians 3:5–10
“Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming. In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.”
God be praised! → We can cut off sin by the Spirit. Our old self and habits are dead. We’re new in Christ, being renewed daily as we renew your mind in God’s truth. We get to walk in newness of life! It’s a new beginning with God!
Truth #6: 2 Corinthians 3:17–18
“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.”
God be praised! → Freedom and transformation from sin’s power comes through the Spirit of God. This is the beauty of sanctification. We are being transformed more and more into the likeness of Jesus through the daily work of the Holy Spirit.
Truth #7: Titus 2:11–12
“For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age.”
God be praised! → God’s grace not only saves—it trains us to truly live freely and fully, like Jesus.
Truth #8: 1 Corinthians 10:13
“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”
God be praised! → Sin no longer has uncontested power—God provides the way of escape. We can cry out to Jesus, and we will be delivered from temptation.
Truth #9: 1 John 3:6, 9-10
“No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him... No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God's seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of God. By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother.”
God be praised! → Those who abide in Christ don’t remain under sin’s rule. As we experientially know the Lord, He truly transforms us. Our God is faithful to deliver us from habitual sin and continued rebellion against Him, and He’s faithful to empower us to walk uprightly, to love our neighbor, and to represent Christ to the world living in darkness. Thank You, God, for the truth.
Truth #10: Philippians 2:12–13
“Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.”
God be praised! → Our God is for us. He actively works in and through us, giving us the desire and the ability to do what brings Him joy, to walk in freedom and fear of the Lord—free from the fear of man.
Let’s take a moment to let these truths from God’s Word resonate within us.
